We Have a Winner in the Blogging Startup Contest!

Well, despite all the challenges of the past week, I survived. But more importantly, I’ve gathered all the entries for the first ever Blogging Startup contest and randomly selected a winner. But first, here are the numbers from the blogging contest:

35 – Number of individuals who entered the blogging contest

223 – Number of entries earned by the 35 individuals

106% - Percent of increase in blog subscribers

68% – Percent of increase in average daily visitors

Win a Free Blog from Blogging Startup!

That’s right. Win the very first Blogging Startup contest and you will be the proud owner of a brand spanking new 2008 blog. This is a new blog that will be started just for you, and I’ll pay the cost and help promote your blog. Here’s a list of what you will receive:

Custom domain name (you choose the name)
Six months free hosting (~ $50 value)
Assistance with initial WordPress installation (including theme and plugins)
Blog review on Blogging Startup
Two months free advertising on any Blog in the Coryan Network

Even if you already have a blog, here’s an opportunity to find another niche topic. Or, just use the blog as a test site for new themes and plugins. You could even offer the blog as a contest on your own site. Be creative, it could be fun.

And now for the various fun ways to enter. Each of the following activities is a way to enter the contest. The number of entries earned is listed after each activity. You may enter as many times as you want, except as noted below.

Post about the contest prior to March 7th. (10 entries, 150 word minimum)
Post a review of Blogging Startup. (10 entries, 250 word minimum)
Subscribe to the Blogging Startup RSS feed. Current subscribers qualify; just leave me a comment saying you’re subscribed. (3 entries)
Leave a relevant comment on any post. However, simply announcing that you’ve subscribed or blogged will not earn extra points. So write comments that share opinions, create dialogue, or start a fight…just make it relevant. (1 entry for each comment)
Add Blogging Startup to your blogroll. (6 entries)

And here are a couple more fun ways to enter. Earn one entry for each correct answer to one of the following questions. All answers are found on this blog.

And one last way to enter. Complete the following brief paragraph. It should only take a sentence or two. Oh, and don’t assume it’s an easy task. There is a bit of a puzzle involved. Once you’ve figured it out, send me a message with your answer. All correct answers will earn 10 entries.

If you subscribe, post on your blog, or add BS to your blogroll, be sure to leave a comment on this post letting me know. However, the answers to the five questions and the puzzle should be sent to my through the Blogging Startup comment page. We don’t want to give away the answers.

Finally, all individuals who accumulate at least 15 points will be listed in the prize announcement post with links to their blogs. The contest ends on March 14th. The winner will be randomly drawn from all entries, so even one comment could make you a winner.

New Contest on a Very New Blog: Win Money and Advertising

Tom Ross from Push Standards is running his very first blog contest on the blog’s very first day! Tom has been actively marketing his blog, even before the official launch. (I think he learned it from the BS launch.) He is willing to gamble $25 and a free 100×100 ad on his new site that his contest will bring some welcomed traffic. So, here are the details from his blog:

“The best blog post or review of Push Standards posted over the course of the next month (deadline: March 5th) will receive a months free advertising. Not only this but I will pay you the value of the ad spot back! So you’re basically receiving $50 worth of prize ($25 cash, $25 worth of ad space).

The review can be as long as you like, but obviously the more detailed your review the more likely it is that you will be chosen as the winner. Blogging Contest: Over $1000 in Prizes at TheRatingBlog.com

One of the regular features that will be posted on Blogging Startup will be contest for bloggers. I believe that new bloggers can benefit from the opportunities for cash, free advertising, and other prizes offered in blogging contests. Ah, who am I kidding…I get more entry points for telling you about the contest.

Alan Johnson has just announced the most valuable blogging contest of the new year. So, click on over to TheRatingBlog.com’s new contest for an opportunity at winning one of the six prizes. Like most blogging contest, you will need to subscribe to win. You will get one entry point for each of the following:
